Then use the Clerk case lookup for the judicial record rather than stretching the custody result beyond its scope.
For Cook County arrest records, identify the law-enforcement agency that created the arrest or incident record, use the Cook County Sheriff Individual in Custody Locator for county-jail status, and use the Clerk of the Circuit Court case lookup for the separately filed criminal case and outcome.
The Cook County Sheriff Individual in Custody Locator answers a county-jail custody question. It does not mean the Cook County Sheriff was necessarily the agency that made the arrest. Chicago Police and other local departments can create the event-level police record while the person later appears in county custody. For an arrest report or incident narrative, identify the originating agency first; for detention status, use the Sheriff locator and preserve the lookup date.
The Clerk of the Circuit Court case lookup is the separate judicial layer. Use it to find the court case that corresponds to the event, then rely on the docket for filed case information and later disposition. This agency-versus-custody distinction is especially important in a large county with many law-enforcement jurisdictions. A county jail result should not be rewritten as a Sheriff arrest simply because the Sheriff operates the custody system.
